Faculty member Peter Webster receives 2016 Sigma Xi Sustained Research Award


Peter Webster has been selected as the recipient of the 2016 Sigma Xi Sustained Research Award, a prestigious internal honor at Georgia Tech.

The award is given to a faculty member in recognition of outstanding sustained research in a given area.

Dr. Webster is a distinguished fluid dynamicist and climate scientist who has made seminal contributions to atmospheric science for more than four decades. He is an internationally recognized expert in tropical meteorology and dynamics, monsoons, ocean-atmosphere interactions, and precipitation hydrology.

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, founded in 1886 at Cornell University, is the honor society of scientists and engineers that recognizes scientific achievement. Its mission is to enhance the health of the research enterprise, foster integrity in science and engineering, and promote the public's understanding of science for the purpose of improving the human condition.

The Georgia Tech Sigma Xi Club was founded in 1946 and installed as a chapter of the national Society of the Sigma Xi in 1953.
