Undergraduate Student of the Month: Mary Francis McDaniel
Mary Francis McDaniel is a 3rd year double major in EAS and Environmental Engineering. Mary works with Dr. Ellery Ingall on analyzing iron aerosols to determine their oxidation states and composition. This research should help them better understand ocean fertilization and thus productivity. Together they are beginning to work on analyzing samples of diatoms for iron. The presence of iron in the diatoms could suggest an iron sink that plays a role in ocean fertilization.
In her spare time, Mary enjoys riding horses, hiking, and trying new foods.
