About the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology
The School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) is highly interdisciplinary and covers broadly all fields of Earth and space science. EAS hosts a range of undergraduate degrees, including B.S. programs in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS), Solid Earth and Planetary Sciences (SEP), and Environmental Science (ENVS), and hosts a distinct interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Ocean Science and Engineering in collaboration with the School of Biological Sciences and Environmental Engineering. Job Summary
The School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS; eas.gatech.edu) at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Earth System Science. Applicants will be considered at all ranks. We seek candidates interested in understanding the dynamics of Earth system processes through a variety of approaches, including experimental and/or field-based techniques, theory, data synthesis, and Earth system modeling. Areas of particular interest to the department include geochemistry and biogeochemistry of oceans, sediments and surface waters, high-temperature and isotope geochemistry, geomicrobiology, astrobiology, Earth system science of carbon removal and greenhouse gas mitigation, and coupling between solid and fluid components of the Earth system.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate and connect with other scientists in EAS and across Georgia Tech; build a vibrant, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program that addresses scientific questions of fundamental significance in Earth system science; and provide high-quality teaching, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and substantively advance student success.
Required Qualifications
An earned doctorate in a field related to Earth system science is required before start of employment. Successful candidates will have a strong track record in pursuing and disseminating original scientific research, and clear potential for high-impact teaching, scholarship, and service. Strong consideration will be given to candidates with a demonstrated commitment to promoting an inclusive and welcoming educational/work environment and an ability to adopt teaching and mentoring strategies that support the learning and success of all students.
