Graduates in EAS (GEAS)

GEAS is a graduate student-run organization and the student government body for graduate students in the Georgia Tech Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. It is composed of an elected board as well as academic representatives for each research discipline within the department.

What does GEAS do?

  • Social events: annual retreat, holiday party, monthly coffee chat, and other social gatherings within EAS
  • Graduate Student Symposium (GSS): research symposium with oral and/or poster presentations; counts towards graduation presentation requirements (PhD students only); cash prizes
  • Professional development events: panel discussions to connect with EAS graduate alum and sharing of career development suggestions
  • Women in GeoSciences (WiGS) events: bagged lunches and panel discussions panels on issues, especially pertaining to women in the geoscience field
  • Graduate student recruiting: coordinate with graduate admissions committee to organize prospective student campus visit weekend (spring semester only)
  • Liaisons between department leadership/faculty and graduate students: participate in faculty meeting and organize graduate student townhalls to discuss life within the department and any issues facing graduate students or feedback to faculty or administration
