National Weather Service
Boulder, CO
Please briefly describe your current job:
In addition to issuing forecasts and warnings for northeast Colorado, I manage the Fire Weather Program at NWS Boulder and deploy to wildfires as an Incident Meteorologist to provide on-site weather support.
What is your favorite part of your current position:
Wildfire deployments in particular are both exhilarating and highly rewarding. Integrating with Incident Management Teams and experiencing the well-oiled machine of the emergency response world helps me realize how critical our support is to responder safety and the overall NWS mission.
How did your EAS education prepare you for your current job?:
I really enjoyed the small nature of the department. Felt like a very close-knit family. I felt I went into my Masters program with a strong foundational base that set me up for success early on. The opportunity to volunteer at the local NWS office is how I first learned of the IMET program in the NWS, and ultimately led to me choosing my current career path.
What do you wish you had known as an EAS undergraduate in order to land the job of your dreams?:
I wish I'd had a little more exposure to field work opportunities.
