What is your favorite part of your current position:
Being my own boss! The funnest part of the job is the rewarding feeling of knowing that people that are very well-respected in the field approve of your ideas (and then write you a check to do research). Also, I get to interact with smart people all the time, travel to cool areas, and always have something to think about The other cool thing is that I am doing more applied research here. Not a dis on fundamental, NSF-type research, but I do get a bit more of a feeling that I am positively impacting the community.
How did your EAS education prepare you for your current job?:
If you can succeed at Tech, you can succeed anywhere. I had a great mentor and even now, I find myself much more prepared for the real world than my peers. I strongly suggest doing undergraduate research as early as possible so you can determine if it is for you!
What do you wish you had known as an EAS undergraduate in order to land the job of your dreams?:
If you decide to go into environmental consulting, learn about regulatory requirements.
