Please briefly describe your current job
Staff Engineer/Geologist/Environmental Specialist: Soil and foundation inspection and remediation, laboratory testing of volatile materials within soils, structural steel, welding, and fireproofing inspections, concrete quality control, well installation and groundwater testing, air quality testing, and environmental consulting and compliance.
What is your favorite part of your current position
Having the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the southeastern region of the United States, and meet and work with new people from all over the world!
How did your EAS education prepare you for your current job?
The large range and variety of classes offered within the discipline! There was always something new and fascinating to learn! My thoughtful and engaging professors and mentor, Dr. Jennifer Glass, also made the experience all the more worthwhile. My EAS education provided me with the knowledge and skill set needed to perform my various duties, both in the field and in the laboratory.
What do you wish you had known as an EAS undergraduate in order to land the job of your dreams?
I wish I had broadened my horizons somewhat and taken more geological and soil chemistry related classes! Thankfully I've earned plenty of experience in these fields within my line of work, and I continue to learn new methods and concepts every day.
