Emily White is a fourth-year Environmental Science major graduating in May 2027. She is interested in wildlife ecology, conservation, geospatial mapping, and science communication. This summer, Emily was an intern with the Wildlife Conservation Section of Georgia's Department of Natural Resources. During her time there, she was able to learn about conservation in the state of Georgia, take valuable field data on rare species, communicate with landowners about the importance of conservation on private lands, and create GIS maps of crawfish occurrence data. Emily has a true passion for research, and some of her favorite research topics are oyster aquaculture and Diamondback terrapin conservation. She is currently a member of the Mendelson Lab at Zoo Atlanta where she conducts research on aquatic turtle anatomy and social interactions. In addition to her research, Emily is a TA for the Introduction to Environmental Science laboratory class, as well as a member of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Marching Band. Emily hopes to pursue a master's or PhD in ecology, conservation, or other relevant areas of study in her future. In her free time, she enjoys reading (especially novels by Barbara Kingsolver), scouring the CD racks at her local thrift store, and making fancy iced lattes at home.
