Slip Slidin' Away: Glaciers and Ice Sheets in a Warming Climate

The School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Presents Dr. Sridhar Anandakrishnan, Penn State

Slip Slidin' Away: Glaciers and Ice Sheets in a Warming Climate

In the next century sea level will be mainly affected by the health and volume of the Polar ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland. In this talk, I will introduce you to the glacier hydrologic system and to one glacier in particular---Thwaites Glacier, Antarctica---and its potential to significantly raise global sea level in the coming years. As a geophysicist, I will focus on the observations and measurements, but will also talk about some of numerical modeling issues.
