Please briefly describe your current job
I use numerical analysis to study a wide variety of problems. I earned my MS in Geophysics at MIT, where I took additional numerical modeling/computational data analysis courses, and then performed geophysical research at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
What is your favorite part of your current position
My favorite part of my current position is that I'm always learning. Its a lot of fun to research the cutting edge in numerical techniques, and then implement those methods with tools you've developed.
How did your EAS education prepare you for your current job?
My EAS education gave me an excellent introduction to scientific programming with Quantitative Techniques (EAS2610) and Earth Systems Modeling (EAS4610). I also greatly benefited from the extensive research experience I obtained in the EAS program under Drs. Martial Taillefert & Dan Lizarralde (now at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution), giving me firsthand experience in data acquisition and processing, skills that have been essential in my career.
What do you wish you had known as an EAS undergraduate in order to land the job of your dreams?
In order to land the job of my dreams, all I needed was a bit more experience based on the skills I obtained as an EAS undergraduate.
