Teachers Experience in the Arctic
Dr. Judith A. Curry is supervising a high school science teacher from North Carolina as part of the NSF Teachers Experience in the Arctic (TEA) program. The TEA program enables teachers to become immersed in a Polar expedition and then to take the experiences and insights gained in the field and share them with their students.
Jason Academy Online Courses
Gwinnett County Schools and Georgia Tech were awarded a Department of Education Middle School Partnership (MSP) grant to provide staff development for middle grades teachers. JASON Academy online courses were taught by Georgia Tech EAS graduate students. Four 5-week online courses were offered to 3 cohorts (classes of 20-25 teachers). These cohorts of teachers took the series of courses together in order to build a professional learning community.
Princeton Earth Physics Program (PEPP)
Dr. T. Long has been involved with promoting the use of seismometers in K-12 teaching from the beginning of the PEPP in 1994. He has organized several workshops on these topics. These workshops and related activities have placed over 10 seismometers in local high schools. He has designed teaching exercises for using seismometers and seismic data in teaching. This material is currently being organized for presentation on a web site (http://GaESN.eas.gatech.edu).

A four week long workshop to assist Georgia middle school teachers with implementation of new curriculum standards in earth science. The class consisted of morning discussions by Dr. E. Ingall on a wide variety of earth science topics followed by discussions by Margaret Tarver covering the details of standard implementation and effective teaching tips. In the afternoon, laboratory exercises prepared by M.
Georgia Intern Student and Teacher Partnerships (STEP)
