Please briefly describe your current job:
I work for Montrose Environmental as a environmental scientist and consultant. I focus on multimedia environmental compliance and permitting. I deliver comprehensive compliance solutions to a diverse clientele spanning industries such as mining, lumber, pulp and paper, asphalt production, healthcare, metal forming and finishing, food production, plastics and polymer products, metal plating, and coatings, across the southeast United States. Fields of expertise include: Environmental regulatory compliance; Regulatory facility audits; Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasure Plans (SPCC); Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP); Hazardous waste generator compliance (RCRA); EPCRA 312 (Tier II) & 313 (TRI/Form R) reporting; Air quality permitting; Wastewater permitting, and Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
What is your favorite part of your current position:
I am passionate about various environmental and human health protection projects, including those related to regulations on air, water, land, hazardous waste, sustainability, climate change, and environmental justice. The best part in my current role is examining the effects of hazardous materials in different environmental media—air, water, and land—and exploring their interconnections. Also, I get to help people and the environment!! I specialize in interpreting complex regulatory frameworks of environmental laws, regulations, policies, and practices, including those outlined by RCRA, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and EPCRA chemical reporting.
How did your EAS education prepare you for your current job?:
The School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences helped me to become a skilled researcher, find solution based approaches, and think outside the box.
What do you wish you had known as an EAS undergraduate in order to land the job of your dreams?:
Environmental Science is a broad degree and there are many directions one can choose to go. Practice the star method for interviews and make sure to smile.
